Helmer: So, Nora without thinking this over you're just going to make up your mind that fast? You're just going to walk out on me, no not just me but OUR family too?
Nora: Oh Torvald you really just don't get it that's the thing. I've had plenty of time to think this over and my mind won't change with anything that you say. I'm done. We're done.
Helmer: When the children wake up in the morning and come to say good morning just remember that you won't be there. When they ask where you are just think that you walked out on them for what reason? Maybe because of your selfishness, you only think about yourself in situations. So just go leave me with what is now MY family.
Nora: That's another thing I must tell you. The children will come to live with me. Once I get settled with Dr. Rank-
Helmer: Dr. Rank?! Wow you truley are not the person I thought I once knew. You will NEVER take my children to live with you, you want to walk out on this marriage then you pay the consiquences.
Nora: Okay we will see what happens then. Now I must go Dr. Rank is be waiting for me.
Helmer: Yea, you wait for your children to come live with you because it will be like waiting for rain in a drought, useless and disappointing.
NORA LEAVES.
(Phone rings, Helmer is too angry to answer so let's it go to the answering machine.)
Dr. Rank:(On the answering machine) Nora, my sweet sweet Nora, I'm sorry Torvald for it to have to be like this and for you to find out like this. You may even hate me but all I want to say is sorry because that's all I can say. I can't go on with my life like this so that is why this is the last time you will ever hear my voice. Good-bye Nora and have a great life Torvald....(the answering machine goes quiet, Nora rushes into Dr. Ranks room)
Nora: NO! STOP! (the phone falls and disconnects)

Wow you made Nora drive Dr. Rank into suicide. This is in my opinion the most unique and suspenseful alternate ending. The way how Nora leaves Helmer to live with Dr. Rank , then at the end he kills himself because of the guilt. I wonder what her second option might be in orderto become an independant person.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Matt. Pretty clever stuff right there. However, I don't think answering machines existed back then. ;)
